Certainly the most important one will come in the form of a new turbodiesel engine, initially scheduled to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2015. However, the most recent reports state that its launch might be postponed slightly due to additional testing by the Environmental Protection Agency. Unfortunately for the new diesel-powered Canyon, it seems that the EPA is determined to introduce more stringent testing when it comes to diesel emissions.

Anyway, the 2016 GMC Canyon will be offered with a 2.8-liter Duramax diesel engine that generates 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. In case its power is transmitted to the rear axle only, it will be able to tow up to 7,700 lbs, while its towing capacity drops to 7,600 lbs with the all-wheel drive version. As for the payload capacity, the 2.8-liter Duramax diesel provides 1,420 lbs, which is slightly less than what the gasoline unit gives (1,500 lbs).
