2017 GMC Canyon Diesel

Both the GMC Canyon and its Chevy Colorado sibling arrived completely redesigned for the 2015 model year. The company then announced that the 2016 Canyon was due to receive its first diesel engine. However, the plan got delayed due to additional tests that have been undertaken by the Environmental Protection Agency. As for the 2017 GMC Canyon Diesel, it will definitely be offered with the Duramax diesel unit that has been eagerly anticipated for a while. Apart from the fresh engine option, the upcoming pickup truck will receive several minor updates.

 Engine Department

Expect the 2017 GMC Canyon Diesel to be motivated by the 2.8-liter Duramax cranking out 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Its power will be transmitted either to the rear axle or all four wheels through a Hydra-Matic six-speed automatic transmission with a centrifugal pendulum vibration absorber. While its maximum towing capacity is rated at 7,700 lbs, the payload capacity reaches 1,420 lbs. According to recent EPA reports, the 2WD Canyon and Colorado diesel models return 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. As for the four-wheel drive versions, they are rated at 20/29 mpg.

As far as the exterior styling is concerned, the new Canyon features a a more appealing looks compared to most of its rivals. Of course, GMC’s pickup truck boasts a more sophisticated design compared to its Colorado sibling. Now, the Duramax diesel will be available exclusively in SLE and range-topping SLT Crew Cab versions. Just like its predecessor, the 2017 GMC Canyon Diesel will be offered with a chromed grille and C-shaped LED daytime running lights. There will be 5-foot-2-inch and 6-foot-2-inch cargo boxes to choose between, both available with corner steps that allow easier access to the bed. Apart from the optional spray-in bedliner, the Canyon Diesel will be offered with a standard rearview camera to assist with trailer hitching as well as a lower damped tailgate for easy access. The cabin will be replete with soft-touch materials, while GM’s IntelliLink platform comprises OnStar with 4G LTE and Apple CarPlay.

2017 Canyon Diesel Pricing and Release

The entry-level version of the 2017 GMC Canyon Diesel is expected to start at $36,320. Official release date has yet to be announced but we believe it will hit the showrooms in late 2016.
