2017 Ram 1500 Diesel Price and Release

Ram’s half-ton pickup truck is most likely to be redesigned for the 2018 model year. In that regard, expect the 2017 model to bring only modest changes. However, the diesel-powered version of the 1500 truck will once again offer the class-leading fuel economy. We expect the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 to be sold in even higher numbers once the 2017 Ram 1500 Diesel hits the market. While awaiting the complete overhaul, Ram’s most popular truck will face a difficult task of competing with much fresher models that include the new Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra and the recently launched Nissan Titan.

2017 Ram 1500 Diesel Engine Specs

The 2017 Ram 1500 Diesel will be powered by the tried and tested turbo-diesel V6 engine. The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel will be churning out 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of twist at just 2,000 rpm. The unit will be coupled with the class-exclusive eight-speed automatic transmission, with 4-wheel drive available in both part-time and full-time variations. The feature that sets this engine apart from its direct competitors is its impressive fuel economy rated at 28 mpg combined. Unfortunately, the Ram 1500 delivers only 10,650 lbs of towing capacity, which is considerably lower than 11,700 lbs offered by GM pickups and 12,200 lbs provided by the Ford F-150.

 Ram 1500 Diesel Features

Compared to the previous model, the 2017 Ram 1500 Diesel is expected to come with an extended list of standard amenities. As for the safety features, expect it to offer hill-start assist, a rearview camera and stability control with a trailer-sway system. The infotainment system will comprise an 8.4-inch touch-screen display and Uconnect Access which connects the truck with Sprint 3G data service. Other available features include voice recognition, plenty of apps and a WiFi hotspot. Among standard amenities, expect also to find cruise control, a removable and locking tailgate, automatic headlights and a USB port. Of course, the 2017 Ram 1500 will once again be offered in a wide variety of body styles, cargo bed-lengths and trim levels.

Compared to the model equipped with the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and eight-speed automatic, the Ram 1500 powered by the turbocharged diesel engine and the same transmission will be priced at least $3,120 higher. The 2017 Ram 1500 Diesel is expected to go on sale in the second half of 2016.
