The Ram 2500 is due to receive several upgrades for the 2017 model year. These changes will be only subtle, concentrated mostly on the list of standard equipment and possibly some engine tweaks. As for the version powered by the highly capable Cummins 6.7-liter unit, it is expected to retain its current status of the class-leading pickup truck when it comes to the towing and payload capacities. So, the 2017 Ram 2500 Diesel will once again outdo the likes of the Ford F-250 and Chevy Silverado 2500, at least when it comes to its ability to tow impressive weights. Base version of the 2017 Ram 2500 Diesel is expected to start just under $40,000. Although the official release date has yet to be announced, we expect it to go on sale sometime in mid-2016.
2017 Ram 2500 Diesel Engine Specs
Of course, the oil-burning Ram 2500 will be offered with two versions of the Cummins inline-6. This turbocharged diesel engine produces either 350 hp and 660 lb-ft or 370 hp and 800 lb-ft of torque. Unlike the gasoline-powered models that get only a six-speed automatic, diesel versions can be had with a segment-exclusive six-speed manual gearbox as well. Another feature that sets diesel models apart from the rest of the range is exhaust braking for added stopping power. The 2017 Ram 2500 Diesel will be able to tow up to 18,000 pounds, which is certainly one of the features that make this truck appealing to all those who seek a proper hard-working machine.
Ram 2500 Diesel Features
The 2017 Ram 2500 Diesel will once again be available in Regular Cab, Crew Cab and Mega Cab configurations. Surprisingly, this brawny pickup boasts a polished and amply appointed interior. Even the lower trim levels offer a bevy of cool features, while the range-topping Laramie models can be described as downright luxurious. Thanks to the 2016 update, the Ram 2500 comes with a revised center stack, while all audio systems now get Bluetooth. In addition to a whole set of electronic-stability systems, the list of standard safety features includes six airbags. As for the optional equipment, expect to find a touch-screen navigation, voice recognition, backup sonar proximity sensors, as well as a rearview camera.
