2017 Toyota Hilux Review

Arriving as a completely redesigned model for the 2016 MY, the iconic Hilux pickup brought a bevy of both exterior and interior enhancements. That said, don’t expect the 2017 Toyota Hilux to offer any revolutionary changes. Instead, it will once again remind us how sturdy and durable vehicle it is, now featuring the sleek and modern styling introduced with its eighth iteration. Not only that, Toyota’s engineers have managed to give it a more sophisticated driving experience, as well as a substantially more comfortable interior.

When it comes to the available engine options, the 2017 Toyota Hilux will be offered with two naturally aspirated gasoline-powered and two turbo-diesel units. As for the gas engine range, it will comprise a 2.7-liter four-cylinder that makes 164 horsepower and a 4.0-liter V6 churning out 278 hp. The less powerful diesel option will be the 2.4-liter that generates 160 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. In case you opt for higher outputs, there will be a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel which produces 174 hp and 331 lb-ft of twist. All of the engines can be matched either to the standard six-speed manual or the optional six-speed automatic transmission.

Design

One of the qualities that set the Hilux apart from the competition is its versatility. In that regard, expect the 2017 Toyota Hilux to be offered in 31 different versions, including three body styles, three trim levels, four engines, two transmissions and both 2WD and 4WD. Design-wise, the redesigned Hilux gets new LED headlights, reshaped front bumper and upper grille, with more pronounced body side fenders. After the latest sheet metal overhaul, Toyota’s legendary pickup boasts a more refined appearance. As for the interior, expect to see a redesigned dashboard with plenty of brushed aluminum accents, while the new instrument panel features a more appealing design.

The list of standard equipment includes such amenities as cruise control, air conditioning, 12-Volt socket, headlight levelling, etc. The standard safety features comprise stability and traction control, emergency stop signal, anti skid brakes, as well as seven air bags. Upper trim levels offer an audio system with electrostatic multi-touch control panel, luxury seats and 4WD changeover switch.
