2017 VW Amarok Facelift and Release Date

According to the most recent reports, Volkswagen is due to launch a facelifted version of the Amarok pickup truck in 2016. The upgraded model is expected to keep the Amarok competitive in the battle with the likes of the Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi L200 and Nissan Navara. In other words, the 2017 VW Amarok should extend this truck’s life at least until the second-generation model arrives by 2020.

Updates

As far as the exterior styling is concerned, the 2017 VW Amarok is expected to undergo subtle changes. The most notable updates will come with slightly revised front and rear fascias, including a redesigned front grille and reshaped headlights. Expect more substantial changes to be visible inside the upcoming Amarok’s cabin. There will be new trim options and new materials, while the leather upholstery should be offered in various combinations. We also expect to see a new infotainment system available with Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto compatibility. Unlike the new exterior that’s not supposed to bring any radical changes, the interior is due to receive a significant makeover. When it comes to the safety, reliable sources claim that the refreshed Amarok should come with additional active safety systems.

Engine Specs

The 2017 VW Amarok will once again be offered with a choice of two diesel-powered four-cylinder engines. However, the refreshed model is likely to bring certain improvements when it comes to performance and fuel-efficiency. The entry-level 2.0 TDI currently produces 138 horsepower and 340Nm of torque. The twin-turbocharged 2.0-liter unit churns out 177 hp and 400Nm paired with a manual gearbox, while the version mated to an automatic transmission delivers 420 Nm. The upcoming Amarok will retain its three drive concepts – rear-wheel drive, Shiftable 4Motion and Permanent 4Motion. The latter uses a Torque Sensing (Torsen) differential with a 40:60 ratio between the front and rear axles.

2017 VW Amarok Pricing

The 2017 VW Amarok will reportedly hit the showrooms in mid-2016. Unfortunately, details concerning the new pricing have yet to be released.
