2019 Jeep Wrangler Pickup Release Date

We’ve known for quite some time that Jeep plans to launch its first pickup truck since the Comanche got killed off in 1992. However, we now know what the pickup truck version of the upcoming Wrangler will actually look like. Thanks to a series of spy photos that have surfaced very recently, we’ve found out that the model is due to feature a pretty long wheelbase as well as a spacious bed. When it comes to the engine range, the 2019 Jeep Wrangler Pickup might offer a choice of two gas-powered units and an EcoDiesel powertrain.

Rumor also has it that we could see a hybrid-powered model to join the lineup at some point in the future. The Wrangler-based pickup has been anticipated for more than a decade now, ever since the Gladiator Concept made its public appearance in 2005. The time has finally come for this eagerly awaited pickup to enter the final stages of development and show its face to the automotive world. According to unofficial sources, the 2019 Jeep Wrangler Pickup is expected to hit the dealerships in the second half of 2018. The model will be built at Jeep’s factory in Toledo, Ohio.

According to the pictures of a test mule, the 2019 Jeep Wrangler Pickup will be a pretty substantial vehicle in terms of dimensions. It seems that Jeep’s designers have given it an unexpectedly long wheelbase and a cargo bed that appears to be in the five-foot range. That basically means that the Wrangler-based pickup will be only slightly shorter than a regular half-ton truck. Although the test vehicle came heavily disguised, it looks like the front end will sport an evolved version of Jeep trademark seven-slot grille. The rear side of the prototype features taillights reminiscent of those seen on Ram trucks. Of course, it’s still too early to state any final judgment on the Wrangler pickup’s appearance. However, we expect it to retain most of the traditional styling cues while benefitting from a generally more aerodynamic shape.

2019 Wrangler Pickup Engine Options

Details concerning engine options offered with the 2019 Jeep Wrangler Pickup are still scarce but it’s expected to receive at least some of the powertrains available in the regular Wrangler. Apart from the familiar V6 gasoline unit, it could also get a turbocharged four-cylinder nicknamed Hurricane. It’s also quite likely to include a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 that propels the Ram 1500. As mentioned, even a hybrid drivetrain has been speculated about but that certainly won’t happen in the first model years. As for the transmission, at least one of these powertrains will be paired with a new eight-speed automatic gearbox.
